To add a new document to the system:
- Click the tab at the top of the RHIN Homepage labeled "Share Resources."
- If your resource is not copyrighted, check the box indicating that it is in the public domain and click next. You will be directed to the document properties page where you will describe the materials that you wish to submit. (Note: RHIN is not accepting copyrighted materials at this time. If you are a copyright holder and wish to share your materials on RHIN please contact info@rhin.org).
- When completing the document properties page, please fill in as much of the information as you can with the highest accuracy possible. Your answers to these questions will be useful to RHIN users as they search and retrieve the documents later. Keep in mind that RHIN users will rely on this information to help them make decisions about which materials to use, and the more helpful you can be describing your materials the easier it will be for RHIN users to locate your document in the RHIN database.
- Upload the document you have described by clicking the "Browse" link that will provide a "File Upload" pop-up window. Use the File Upload window to select the file from its location on your computer and then click the “Open” button to attach your document to your RHIN submission. Please note that if you are uploading multiple languages of the same document you must upload the English version first. Then, use the “Add Another Language” button to list other language versions of the same document. In order to keep translations with their English “parent”, please save each translation with the same title as the English version followed by the language.
We understand that users might need to remove content that they have put into the system due to a number of reasons. Because removing a document is a sensitive operation, only RHIN managers are authorized to remove documents. If you are the producer of a document that you would like removed from the system for any reason, please contact Carrie Gould-Kabler at info@rhin.org. In your e-mail please describe the document(s) you wish to have removed from the RHIN database and your reason for wanting them removed.
Anyone can search for a document that exists in the system. A simple search can be performed by entering a search term in the box labels" Search RHIN" on the RHIN Homepage and clicking on “Search”. If you have a particular language requirement you can choose a language from the dropdown menu in the box labeled “language”, By default, the search is performed over all the metadata fields that you have entered, like language, title, keywords, comments, etc. If you get too many results or want more control over your search then click on the Advanced Search link on the search page and it takes you to a page where you get more options.
An advanced search will enable you to choose from several menus that describe documents available through RHIN. You can search by title, keyword, or by language, format, category or author. In advanced search you can narrow your search criteria by language or development type or just search on specific fields.
Once you have selected your search parameters and clicked on “Search”, you will receive a list of materials that are accessible through RHIN, in all formats: documents, websites, audio or video files, etc. In each case you will also see the date the materials were produced and the languages in which the materials is available.
Once you have selected the listing of interest you will be led a page that will describe the properties of your selection (producer, author, keywords, development methodology, etc.) and a hyperlink to the document in the language you have selected and all other languages in which that document was produced. When you click on the hyperlink of your language of choice you will be directed to the document that you may use online or download.
